I hereby acknowledge the receipt of eighteen pounds 1s5/ being the first installment of the purchase money for Lot No. thirty three in the ninth concession of Camden East containing two hundred Acres, more or less, as described in the Patent from the Crown to the Canada Company, as also your Promisary Notes for the five remaining Instalments.

You are now at liberty to take possession of the said Lot, and to hold the same; subject, however, to the condition, that if the above mentioned Promissory Notes, or any one of them, are not punctually paid, the Canada Company shall be entitled to re-enter the Land at any time after such default, without serving on you, or other person holding under you, a notice to quit.

You are also informed, that no sale of the said Lot, made by you previously to the fulfilment of your engagement, will be recognised by the Canada Company, unless reported to and approved of by their Commissioners.

{This is a large faint blue piece of paper folded several times. The watermark reads "J Whatman Turkey Mill 1844". I marked it GM118. The dark brown writing is all on one side. On the address half is a "TORONTO" postmark and another faint red one, probably from CAMDEN EAST. The address reads:}

{This is a large sheet of pale blue paper folded in half, and then twice more. There is a watermark "J.Whatman Turkey Mill 1843". It is marked GM116. Dark brown ink writing on one side only. While it appears well written it is difficult to read.
